An LED video wall is a large display built by tiling modular direct-view LED panels into one seamless screen. The image is created by the LEDs themselves, so there are no bezels across the picture, the display stays bright in lit spaces, and the wall can be scaled to almost any size or shape.

Pixel pitch is the distance between the centres of two adjacent LEDs, measured in millimetres. A smaller pitch packs more pixels into the same area, which gives a sharper image at close viewing distances. As a guide, choose a finer pitch for walls people stand close to, such as control rooms and boardrooms, and a larger pitch for big rooms and outdoor sites viewed from a distance. PeopleLink offers a range from sub-millimetre fine-pitch COB through to larger outdoor pitches.

An LCD video wall is built from individual LCD panels that each have a thin bezel, so faint lines remain visible where the panels meet. A direct-view LED video wall forms the image from the LEDs themselves with no bezels, so the picture is fully seamless. LED walls also tend to be brighter and scale more freely to large or custom sizes.

COB, or chip-on-board, packages the LED chips directly onto the board for a durable, smooth surface that suits very fine pixel pitches. GOB, or glue-on-board, adds a protective resin layer over the LEDs to improve resistance to knocks, moisture and dust. PeopleLink offers both COB and GOB options within the Active LED range.

LED video walls are assembled from modular panels mounted to a frame or wall structure and driven by a video processor or controller. Because the panels are modular, maintenance can be carried out at the panel level to limit downtime.
